I just had my worst workout of 20, the worst workout I’ve had in a long time. I fully intended to film this workout and take you with me step by step, but I have been feeling a bit off mentally all day, and it wasn’t clicking today, as frustrating as it is.
It’s so typical that this happens.
It’s not like not every workout, we’ll leave the gym feeling like a million bucks, and you can take on the world. You love those days so much and must soak them in. We have them because there will also be days like this. I wasn’t getting my heart rate up. I just felt like I was moving so slowly through each exercise, and as much as I was trying to get my head in it, it just wasn’t there for me today.
I am annoyed because I was looking forward to having a good workout.
My workouts lately have been so good and energized, and I’m gaining strength and muscle mass with what I’m doing currently. So it’s no big deal. I did get on the Peloton afterward, and I did some cardio. I kept it a low-intensity day anyway because I did a HITT workout yesterday, which got me good. I was sore today, so I didn’t film the training. I got in my head. I had to get on the bike. I didn’t even do a ride. I just listened to my music because I felt myself getting into a mental funk, and I was like; we’re not going to go there.
It’s not that serious.
A bad workout doesn’t have to trickle into your entire day, and I don’t need to beat myself up about it because I know my workouts have been good, and I see the work I’ve been putting in. So I will take this as a sign that I need some self-care in some capacity, and it happens to all of us occasionally.
The last time I checked in with you on YouTube was in 2022. So Welcome back. I last did a little sit-down a minute ago. I want this video to be brief, but I want to talk about the intentions that I’m setting for 2023. When you think of the word resolution, that is, by definition, a firm decision, that’s hard. But for an intention, that’s more like having an idea or a plan. And so the word intention is slightly more fluid. The word intention includes what I intend to accomplish, but there’s more fluidity within that word.
Does that make sense?
I’ve been setting intentions for the past few years.
I’ll do little categories where this is my financial goals, personal goals, fitness goals, and things like that. So I have a few that I wrote down. I still need to make an organized list. I plan on making it pretty, but for now, I just wrote it in my notes, and that’s okay too.
I have more rest as one of my top priorities, whether it’s working out or the way I need a rest day, or I need a mental rest day, a mental reset.
But there’s a lot of internalized guilt that I have, something that I talk about in therapy a lot because I’m trying to unlearn some of those things and allow myself proper rest and not only that, but being okay with it, you know, not laying down on the couch watching Netflix and being like, oh my God, I’m being so lazy. I should do something else. I should do something more productive.
We need those mental breaks, those physical breaks, the resetting because we come back stronger with a fresh mentality.
Just take some time, do something for yourself, fully embrace it and understand that it is okay and will help you in the long run. If you go, go, go, go, go, and you don’t allow yourself those breaks and refuse to tell yourself that you deserve those breaks, you’re going to hit that burnout stage; nothing is worse.
There’s nothing worse than burnout.
So we’re avoiding burnout this year by having more intentional rest.
Another thing that I intend to do this year is to learn a brand-new skill. I’m starting Spanish. So I want to improve my Spanish, and I want to be more conversational with it. I am confident in my baseline Spanish, but I want to understand it better as it’s being spoken because native Spanish speakers talk fast. I can only understand it when it’s slow, which differs from how fluent people speak naturally in conversation. I do it for 15 to 20 minutes a few days a week, and it’s been great. So, that is a skill that has been introduced previously. I own some Spanish skills.
And then I also really want to learn how to play chess when I see people playing it, especially when I was watching Queen’s gambit, which was like a couple of years ago. I was like; this is so cool. I need to learn how to play.
We often avoid trying something new because we fear embarrassment or failure.
So I saw this tweet on Pinterest, and it stuck with me.
So I will read it to you guys because it’s about trying something new:
Embarrassment is the cost of entry. If you aren’t willing to look like a foolish beginner, you’ll never become a graceful master.
This applies to going to the gym and starting a new workout program. You will never accomplish anything or grow if you’re afraid to be embarrassed.
Time is another intention I’ve set for myself instead of getting on and mindlessly scrolling and doing nothing. I want to have set blocks of time where I go on social media because it is a massive part of my job. I catch myself just bullshitting on the apps, as we all do. But I want to be more intentional about my time on social media and, more importantly, my time off of social media.
So blocking off times where it’s okay, and during this time, I will go on and answer comments instead of doing all of that sporadically throughout my day. When you go on social media and support people as I do, I’m compelled to keep checking in because I’ve got to keep my peeps motivated. Still, I need to maintain that in a block of time where I will be on social media more efficiently. That brings me to my last little intention for the New Year: slow down.
When I am going somewhere or getting ready for something, I can definitely wish time away or rush through things, and then it’s like you blink, and they’re gone, and the moment is over.
Therefore, I want to slow down, enjoy the moment, and be more present before starting my daily journey. I feel like I lived in that high state of anxiety for so long that my body would often return to that. And I’m sure that’s happened with many of us; just like past trauma and stuff we’ve had to work through, and your body holds onto so much. So, I feel like my body was operating within that anxiety for so long that it is harder for me to slow down and focus on one thing and not try to multitask and do 100 things simultaneously. I’m always working on that, but I’m making it more of a conscious habit this year.
That’s it. When it comes to my intentions for 2023, it does help to keep you accountable and at the forefront of your mind.
So a good thing to do is write down your intentions. You don’t have to be super detailed. I jotted down a few things that came to mind taking it one day at a time.
So with that being said, I am starting a cut; I don’t want to call it a prep because I don’t have a show or anything. So I have something to work towards because I’ve been in this place for a while, where I’ve been maintaining the same physique and mostly doing the same workouts, and that’s all fine.
I love the way I work out. And to me, my workouts have been excellent. I’ve been super consistent, and it’s time to push myself again and punch it for a few months.
I love working towards something and the competition with myself, even if no competitions are scheduled soon. I am officially starting today. This is my day one. So I took my morning progress pictures. I weighed myself. I have my macros all set up. I’m going to carb cycle. I’ll talk more about that. I’m taking it super seriously. I’m committing to this and excited to see where it goes and what I can do. Hopefully, you guys will, you know, be there, cheering me on.
If some of you guys are doing any physique changes or competing, I’d love to hear about it, put it in the comments, and we can hype each other up.
I did 20 minutes of cardio this mo, maintaining crazy. I will take it literally one day at a freaking time and try to win the day. I’m excited. The word cut doesn’t do it for me, but I’m also not prepping. So if you want to help me figure out some excellent word or a name for this, let me know. I will be back with an updated video next week.
I hope you guys are doing fantastic.
I appreciate your support over this last year; it has been the best for forming these para-social relationships. It’s super fun when you meet other people who get it. Thank you, guys, for watching. I hope you stick around for my cut series, whatever we call it. We can get a little shred. I will see you guys in the following video.
Thank you so much for watching.
I love you so much, and I’ll see you soon.
